Ian Douglas

General Manager

Drawing on his over 30 years of experience in the scaffolding industry across England, Canada, NZ, and Australia, Ian is responsible for ensuring that Stilcon Scaffolding continues to raise the bar in delivering seamless, end- to-end scaffolding services.

Ian started his scaffolding career as a sixteen-year-old apprentice in England. After on the job learning and training course, he progressed to his basic ticket within two years and after ten years in the industry gaining his Advanced ticket.

Since immigrating to Australia in 2006, Ian has successfully led the design and delivery of the scaffolding solutions on some of Australia’s most iconic infrastructure projects. This includes the $300 Million dollar Westgate Bridge remodelling which saw him lead a team of fourteen scaffolders to build two of the tallest scaffolds in the southern hemisphere – free standing 40 metre high, 20 metres by 20 metres birdcage scaffolds for crib sheds, housing 300 workers for the two-year duration of the project. Other projects such as the Metro and Westgate Tunnels builds and over 30 level crossing removals. His key commercial projects include the expansion and redevelopment works for Rod Laver Arena, Chadstone Shopping Centre, and Caulfield Village.

Ian believes in the importance of team culture and building strong relationships through being open, genuine and straight forward with his team. Ian is passionate about on-site safety, and currently sits on the Scaffold Safety Committee Board with the Master Builders Association of Victoria and Worksafe.

Away from work, Ian is a competitive cyclist and enjoys swimming, soccer, and cooking.
